"PA trio of scientific experts have vouched for the justification used by a federal health agency last month to explain why it plans to exclude cancer from an upcoming health study into toxic firefighting chemicals, which have impacted communities along the Bucks and Montgomery County border. However, others say they’re still baffled by the decision, and all agree that the chemicals’ potential carcinogenicity should be studied. The revelation that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would not study cancer came as a disappointment to many who have followed the issue over the past several years. In 2014, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, were first discovered in elevated levels in the drinking water of some 80,000 area residents, placing the communities on a growing list of known human exposure sites across the country."
