"The changes follow another reconfiguration announced last week over which watchdog group Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility rang alarm bells on Wednesday. Bernhardt announced that 49 offices across eight bureaus would be consolidated into 12 so-called unified regions, and he assigned 12 field special assistants, likely for one-year stints, to ensure "long-term operational efficiency." The regions fall in line with former Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke's reorganization plan."
