Ben Lomeli: Standing Up for Scientific Integrity

Ben is a PEER Board member and also one of our first clients, beginning in the early 1990s.

Back then PEER worked with Ben to assist his efforts to save Arizona’s San Pedro River from excessive groundwater withdrawals. Ben was the cover story on the second issue of PEEReview back in 1993 and we successfully nominated him to receive the Cavallo Award for Moral Courage in 1996.

Shortly thereafter, Ben left the BLM for about a decade, After he returned, we worked with him when he encountered official pushback against core resource protection on the issue of the Rosemont Mine.  He has recently retired for good from the BLM.
